Summary

We have an immediate need for a Tool Room Manager at our Fullerton, California Headquarters.  The Tool Room Manager is responsible for supporting large commercial field operations (electrical contractor). The Tool Room Manager is responsible for the overall management of the tool room for the organization, including the development, performance, and maintenance of the tool room and stock control to produce an efficient system and delivery solution, maximizing performance and minimizing costs against pre-agreed targets and controls.

 

Job Duties:

  • Manages projects for the tool room, tool repair, and coordinates tool orders and returns for project operations.

  • Oversees tool database management including valuations, monthly project tool reports, and tool tracking functions associated with assigning to jobs and overseeing the tool return and check-in process as tools come back from jobs.

  • Manage the repair of small warehouse tools such as battery/cordless, hydraulic, small gas motor and other misc. electric tools.

  • Plans resources and meets established project completion dates

  • Implements and supervises adherence to all company policies, including but not limited to, safety, attendance, training, preventative maintenance, quality and the employee handbook.

  • Provides cost estimates for new tools, based on field and project needs, in conjunction with the purchasing team and field supervisors.

  • Performs supervisory duties, in conjunction with the warehouse and purchasing teams, including but not limited to, hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating, and rewarding performance.

  • Encourages open employee communication; provides positive feedback and professional development opportunities to employees, promoting optimal productivity.

  • Practices a participative management style that advocates teamwork.

  • Maintains tool room procedures, documents, and records.

  • Load and unload material within our warehouse.

  • Utilize hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, and/or other equipment.

  • Supervise the unpacking and sorting of electrical materials and tools, repacking and/or storing of materials and tools.

  • Supervise the maintenance of a clean warehouse and yard area.

  • Performs other duties as assigned, while working closely with other departments such as prefab, packaging, field supervisors, warehouse, and delivery coordination.

Skills & Abilities​

  • Knowledge of tool room equipment and preventative maintenance practices

  • Ability to develop and maintain a shop schedule that includes multiple projects, resources and deadlines.

  • Working knowledge tool crib inventory management systems preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including E-mail, Word, and Excel.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • General small electric tool repair knowledge preferred.

  • 1+ yrs electrical tool room management experience required.

  • 3+ yrs electrical warehouse experience preferred.

  • Experience in managing direct reports and external suppliers

  • Forklift certification required.

  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.

Warehouse - Tool Room Manager

Job Duties

  • Position reports to the Director of Health and Safety.

  • Perform daily site health and safety observations/walks. Provide coaching to craft level employees and report findings to site leadership team for recognition or correction.

  • Participate in Pre-Task Plan (PTP) meetings. Provide coaching on the purpose of PTP’s and hazard recognition and mitigation.

  • Assist site leadership in the development, augmentation, and implementation of site-specific Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s).

  • Perform and manage documented site health and safety audits (scheduled and random) and required client recordkeeping, routinely interacting with client site safety personnel.

  • Communicate regularly with site leadership regarding upcoming scopes of work that will require your participation and guidance.

  • Provide regular updates to the Director of Health and Safety regarding upcoming critical work activities onsite.

  • Participate and provide coaching during weekly tailgate safety meetings.

  • Deliver ad hoc health and safety training on site (forklift / MEWP / Fall Protection, etc.) with guidance from the Regional Health and Safety Manager.

  • Assist site leadership during emergency/injury response procedures.

  • Assist site leadership in the management and maintenance of incident, and near miss investigations, reporting and recordkeeping.

  • Assist the Director of Health and Safety managing the work activity status of employees returning to work after an injury.

  • Assist in the protection of SASCO property and other assets, including autos, contractors' equipment, and materials stored at our jobs and in our warehouses.

  • Regularly communicate to various groups, including union electricians, general foreman/foremen, project managers, general contractor staff, and participate in regulatory inspections that may occur on the project site where SASCO is directly involved.

Job Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of full-time construction safety experience (background in electrical construction and large project work experience highly desirable).

  • Detail oriented – able to take direction as required to execute mission and achieve results.

  • OSHA 30-hour construction required. (Current Cal / OSHA 30 hour and additional professional safety certifications preferred.)

  • BCSP - C.H.S.T. with 3-5 years field safety experience.

  • First Aid / CPR certified.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Prior experience conducting health and safety training. (highly desirable).

  • Self-starter.  Able to work both as a solid team player with corporate and project management as well as independently, when necessary.

  • Willing to work collaboratively to solve operational challenges and move our projects forward in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Strong working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local health and safety regulations.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, training, and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to travel locally.
