Junior Estimator
Category: Estimating
Location: Fullerton, CA

Summary

Estimating is an integral part of the Electrical Construction process. A Junior Estimator assists in gathering, calculating and compiling data for use in bid proposal estimates for one or more discipline areas and provides defined estimating services on both small and large, complex work. Accurate estimation ensures SASCO’s competitiveness, profitability and growth. Incumbents must have some relative experience in the electrical industry that can be applied to this position and be self-starters with focus and a commitment to ensuring SASCO’s standard of excellence.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Calculate various statistical data - quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man hour, equipment, etc.

  • Participate in developing project update and bid package estimate documents.

  • Maintain files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures.

  • Assist in the entry of take-off into a computerized estimating software system.

  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction or related field desirable but not essential.

  • Electrical contracting and estimating

  • The candidate shall possess strong verbal and written communication skills, shall be energetic and a self-starter.

  • Basic computer skills (i.e.: Word, Excel, and Internet).

  • The successful candidate shall have raw intelligence, a willingness to learn, tenacity, strong organizational skills and excellent work habits.

  • Ability to work independently

Sr. Electrical Estimator
Category: Estimating
Location: Fullerton, CA

Summary

The estimator is an integral part of the Electrical Construction process. Accurate estimating ensures SASCO's competitiveness, profitability and growth. Incumbents need to be self-starters with focus and a commitment to ensuring SASCO's standard of excellence. An Electrical Construction background is essential to being successful in this position.

Job Duties:

  • Preparation of complete labor and material estimates for large commercial electrical projects.

  • Prepare bills of material and other information for use by purchasing.

  • Data Entry

  • Close coordination with Project Management.

  • Additional duties as determined by Chief Estimator

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction or related field desirable but not essential

  • 10+ yrs experience with large (3 million +) electrical construction projects and/or estimates.

  • Depth of knowledge with a wide variety electrical materials and methods of installation.

  • Strong Organizational and Leadership skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to work independently as well as a part of the team

  • Accubid, McCormick estimating software or equivalent

  • Read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications as they relate to the electrical work.

  • Knowledge of the N.E.C. and local codes.

  • Computer literate in common MS word and excel.

  • Able to do basic circuitry for power and lighting and layout on drawings.

  • Understands fire alarm system wiring methods and layout on drawings.

Estimator (DATA & SYSTEMS)

Security, Access Control Systems, CCTV, Audio Visual Systems, Public Safety DAS, Structured Cabling, etc.

Job Duties:

  • Preparation of comprehensive labor and material estimates for Data & Systems Group.

  • Coordination with electrical and systems estimating teams.

  • Design/engineer low voltage pathways, conduit systems, and structured cabling systems

  • Manage and direct BIM Modeler teams during design process.

  • Work in conjunction with preconstruction sales teams.

  • Coordination with material Manufacturers and Representatives

  • Coordination/Management of sub-contractor scopes/bids

  • Management/control of bid documents

  • Maintenance/Tracking of Estimate Log

  • Additional Duties as determined by Group Executive and/or President.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • 5 – 10 years’ experience with Structured Cabling and Low Voltage Systems design, engineering and estimating large $1 Million + projects.

  • Awareness of NEC Code, local code(s), and EIA/TIA/BICSI Standards.

  • Accubid estimating software or equivalent.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to work independently as well as a part of the team.

  • Depth of knowledge with a wide variety of cabling materials and methods of installation.

  • Read and understand civil, architectural, structural, MEP, and Telecommunications plans and specifications (Division 27000 and 28000) as they relate to the structured cabling work.

  • Proficient using computer (Microsoft Office suite).

  • RCDD desired.

Location: Fullerton, CA

Revit Operator Responsibilities:

  • Create and design for custom made-to-order requirements, using Revit / computer-aided design.

  • Develop accurate layouts, assembly drawings, details and bills of materials.

  • Prepare plans and layouts for equipment or system arrangements and space allocation.

  • Take direction from Sr. engineers and/or group Presidents and Executives to research drawings, catalogs, sketches, etc., to develop detailed dimensioned drawings.

  • Perform detailed design and documentation work.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years REVIT experience

  • Basic understanding of how AutoCAD works

  • Familiarity with NavisWorks is a plus.

  • Ability to read MEP drawings and draw floor plans, sections and details

  • Ability to adhere to schedules.

BIM - Revit Operator
Category: Estimating
Location: Fullerton, CA

As a conceptual estimator, responsibilities will include preparing cost models for early design concepts, requiring the ability to derive meaningful cost data from historical cost data, relevant benchmarked projects and assumptions and project specific factors. In addition, significant judgment regarding market conditions, trade contractor capabilities, and risk management measures will be required. Qualified candidates will demonstrate an interest in and ability to develop expertise and leadership in the following specialty project planning services: value analysis, life cycle costing, constructability analysis, alternatives analysis, LEED, regional market cost factoring, work scope definition and integration of construction scheduling factors into the cost of the work.   This position will provide a great opportunity for a long-term thinker to develop leadership, participate in a broad range of project planning services, and grow with the company.  The role will offer opportunities to bring value by mentoring others within the group and providing estimating and preconstruction services for project teams throughout the company. Additionally, this position requires a high degree of collaboration with internal and external project teams. 

As a member of our innovative project planning group, this person will have opportunities to contribute to the development and implementation of technology systems including historical cost tracking and benchmarking systems, estimating systems based on models and assemblies, and the use of virtual design and construction (BIM) in planning activities.  Aptitude for learning, using, and teaching technology applications and wholehearted commitment to leveraging technology to increase efficiency and effectiveness will be critical for success. This person will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering multiple projects, developing innovative ways of applying preconstruction specialty services to address client needs, and proposing and implementing ideas for continuous improvement of project planning services.

  • Computer Skills: Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).  Ability to achieve expert proficiency with Accubid Estimating System for managing estimate information.

  • Math Skills: Solid numerical and analytical skills and ability to apply these skills to achieve accurate quantity assumptions guiding estimates.

  • Learning Orientation: Willing to pursue related educational and training opportunities for job performance improvement on an on-going basis, and to openly share knowledge and debate concepts with appropriate members of the SASCO team.

Requirements:
Best-suited candidates will have the following education and experience or equivalent:

  • 5+ years of conceptual estimating, cost engineering and modeling experience.

  • Solid knowledge of building systems and familiarity with resources for maintaining current knowledge.

  • Field experience in addition to conceptual estimating experience. 

  • Experience leading estimating teams at various stages of design.

  • Successful completion of classes or other training or experience in cost estimating, cost modeling, cost engineering, and constructability, and ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding.

  • Demonstrated success in positions (estimating or other experiences) requiring professionalism, integrity, and accuracy.
